our rheology & flow properties

Impact Laboratories are capable of assessing the rheology of polymer melts.  The rheology of a polymer melt can give information on the molecular or polymer structure as it is the study of the flow and deformation of polymer melts.

Polymer processing behaviour is heavily affected by the rheology of the polymer melt.  Polymer processing exploits the deformation and flow of a melt to create products and rheology can give valuable information on how polymers will process.  Rheology is concerned with the relationship between stress, strain (change of shape) and time.

The general objectives of rheology are to:

  • Understand the behaviour of the plastic relevant to the conversion process.

  • Relate molecular structure to the rheological response of the polymer.

  • Quantify the response of the material.

  • Use data to predict the performance of the polymer in actual processes and for computer model simulation.

By performing these tests, we can predict the behaviour of a polymer for processing.
