The melt behaviour, or rheology of a polymer is heavily influenced by the polymer molecules and in turn influences the processability of a polymer. In this booklet the effect of shear rate and swell are discussed and a particularly useful diagram links the shear rate with the different processes, rotomoulding, extrusion, injection moulding etc. Methods for measuring melt properties are included such as MFR, Capillary rheometry and dynamic rheometry and DMA. Finally some examples of how rheological techniques have been applied.
